My name is Elior Sterling and I am a rabbinic student and Jewish educator living in Walla Walla, Washington. I work to expand access to Jewish learning, communal prayer, and practice opportunities for Jews across the rural Pacific Northwest.
I teach a range of online group classes for pre-teens through adults with the intent of both sharing the wisdom of our tradition and building ties across the small pockets of Jewish community throughout this region. I also provide one-on-one tutoring in preparation for B' Mitzvah.
You can learn more about me on the About page, or explore the Classes page to find out what offerings I have coming up.
Before the High Holy Days, it is traditional to spend the month of Elul in special preparatory studies. This is the time, before Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, when we study the laws about making amends and about giving and receiving forgiveness. Maimonides tells us that the sacrifices of Yom Kippur were only ever intended to cover us for the sins that we committed against G-d. In matters between human beings, we must approach the people we have harmed directly.
In the summer of 2023 I was interviewed by Shane Brodie for his YouTube channel Other Conversations. The first video from that interview was posted on Trans Day of Visibility 2024.

For a while now I've been meaning to gather together my old writing and new and link to it in one place. I also need someplace to showcase the teaching and public speaking that I am doing now. This site is that place.
