Within Jewish tradition, Kabbalah is a mystical system that explains the relationship between the Divine and the finite, mortal universe. Many see it as an explanation of the world that can be used like physics to manipulate the world around us, while others view it as a type of theosophy, through which one can implore divine forces to heed one's requests. While originating with Judaism, variations of Kabbalah are also followed by Christian mystics, ceremonial magicians, and some Neo-Pagans. This class will present an overview of the basic ideas underpinning all the variations of Kabbalah, including Sefirot and the Tree of Life; The Four Worlds; Angels and Demons; how language creates reality; numerology; mystical time; the human body; and Divine Names.
Required Materials: notebook or journal; computer, laptop, or smartphone with Internet access.
All texts for this class will be available through the Sefaria website or app.
